We welcome people who care about building AI that helps society. Here is how to reach us, depending on where you are.
PhD students
Apply through the University of Michigan CSE PhD program by December 15 for the following fall. Please mention Elizabeth Bondi-Kelly in your Statement of Purpose so we can find your application.
Note: we will likely not be hiring for the Fall 2026 cycle. We also recommend the community-maintained CS PhD application and mentoring guides as you prepare.
Master's, undergraduate & high-school students
Current U-M students: apply via our intake form about three weeks before the semester begins. Hiring isn't guaranteed every cycle. Graduate Student Research Assistantships generally require working with us on an hourly basis for at least one semester first. We encourage you to explore funding such as SURE, UROP, and DREU.
Prospective U-M students: the best path is to apply to the University of Michigan directly.
External students: during the lab's startup phase we prioritize current U-M applicants.
